Describe an item you were incredibly attached to as a youth. What became of it?

As a young teen, I had an obsession with magic and the occult. I was gifted an evil eye. It was a sterling silver plated pendant that hung on a black cord, and I never took it off my neck. I can still recall its weight on my skin. I can still feel the textured metal in my hand.

As a youth with undiagnosed mental illness, I believed that I was under attack by evil forces, and I wore this evil eye religiously to help repel them. It sounds unconventional, I admit, but I’d never heard of mental illness before.

On the other hand, I grew up in a family that was extremely unconventional, so I did the best with the information I had, as all of us do as kids.

What happened to the pendant?

Your guess is as good as mine. One day, the cord must have broken without me noticing. It was gone, and it was never found. Perhaps it was just an accident. Perhaps it served its purpose and went on its way. Magical objects are tricky like that. ✨️

  1. Loved this story! Maybe the evil eye necklace just decided it had done its job and quietly retired without notice—after all, even protective jewelry deserves a break! Funny how objects become our secret heroes until one day they just vanish, leaving us wondering. Thanks for sharing this magical little mystery!

    1. Thanks so much! I’ve had other treasures disappear on me since then, and some are quite mischievous and like to reappear in places I’ve already searched after a while!
