Writing Inspiration

Writers put too much pressure on ourselves.
You don’t need a completely unique concept to craft a unique story. When you can learn to write in a way that weaves pieces of your own world and worldview into your work, it becomes unique even if the concept has been done before.
You have a unique voice, and you’ve had a unique life. That will shine through in your writing if you learn to harness it.
Why I Chose Horror

I love writing horror because fear is an emotion everyone experiences to some degree. It’s part of a complex system designed to help us survive a dangerous world.
I enjoy that nearly anything can be scary if properly brought to life.
My favorite types of stories to write showcase the horrors in our everyday existence. They also frequently have themes like choice.

Additionally, I feel strongly that horror media helps us process and cope with the very real horrors of living better.
As Flanagan says above, horror fans tend to be more empathetic and kind than the average person because they have that outlet and that high tolerance for discomfort.
A high tolerance for discomfort enables people to sit with others in very dark moments. It allows them to understand and have compassion for things that make most people too uncomfortable.
Horror is just an incredible genre, and I’m proud to be a horror author.
As a reminder, I have a horror poetry collection coming in September, and my first novella is estimated to be released in January!
