When do you feel most productive?

I’ve been a writer since I was in middle school. I began with poetry and worked my way up to starting stories I never finished. I went through an extremely cringey fanfiction phase. I’ve toyed with psychological thriller, a more violent fantasy, erotica, mystery, and I found my home in horror.

Also, I have a circadian rhythm disorder that has had me up until sunrise a lot of that time. I’ve also repeatedly corrected it and gone to bed at 9 pm.

My point being, regardless of my bedtime, regardless of what I’m writing, I simply cannot write until the sun goes down.

I know Stephen King is an amazing horror author, and he writes in the morning, but he wrote his first book on a typewriter in the middle of the night the way the muses intended. I’m pretty sure he switched to mornings when it became his only job. Then it kind of makes sense. Almost. I’d just stay up all night writing, sleep all day, and become Maine’s newest vampire.

I don’t trust anyone whose brain works best in the morning and chooses to be creative before the caffeine has even hit their bloodstream.

They’re the real horrors.
